getting in swing

chemo

My girlfriend jmr early this year found out she had breast cancer. It was around February when we went for the biopsy. There was a river of emotions since then and there were six chemo treatments. Wow, she just text me she just had her last chemo. Though I am on the east coast now, we are still close. There is something about the closeness of people when they think of each other. Do you coincidentally think of someone too? Her cancer was stage 4 on the left breast. During surgery they found the right was at stage 1. She then decided to remove both breasts during surgery. During quiet times like now I wonder how different she must feel, though necessary as it is, your body means so much to you. It is a modern facility in San Diego and very peaceful and relaxing for the patients. Just 5 years ago I had volunteered at Sharp Hospital on the 8th floor North in Oncology. This brought memories back to me. Volunteering for good causes is something a person should do at least once in life. The appreciation it brings to ones self is important to experience. She is now wearing a wig and still is looking fabulous *smile* .... and she's smiling too. Hopefully, after these chemo treatments her hair will grow back soon. My contribution has been emotional support and text messaging to keep in touch. She is a survivor. Today on Martha Stewart, the show was dedicated to breast cancer survivors. So hold close to your girlfriends, check yourself, and contribute to a healthy life i.e. CR and exercise, emotional supports of friends and family, and new acquaintances along the way. And in closing... in my thoughts "a peaceful life is all I ask".

greetings!

Greetings! After a long while I am returning home. I have moved back to the east coast to Maryland. Today I will be grocery shopping and restocking my pantry. Check out my Grocery Lookout on main page for current food prices for today. Let's start today with a hug and smile and that being healthy is for a happy life.

I have pictures and stories to catch up on and I will update on travels.

Hello... and yes, I did fall off the wagon on my CR journey. This morning I did wake up happy and so I did a half hour of Pilates with FitTV chanel 181. I am still unpacking and can't find a thing! So, I will improvise, ha ha *smile*.

I hope you are having a good day and I will also.

clams & pinot grigio

Gourmet magazine gave me an idea for dinner with clams in white wine. Clams are a good source of B-12 and iron for good health. I found an article that describes buying clams and cleaning them as well as preparation, click here. Also, I will be cooking them with Pinot Grigio wine that I enjoy drinking. Pairing this wine with seafood is recommended, here are notes on wine. This week I have changed the intensity of my daily exercise routine to a higher level. I will be including specific sculpting and abs exercises about 1-1/4 hrs alternating each day with 1 hour cardio whole body burns. Today is my third day and scheduled is cardio burn. I do feel the muscles feeling worked. So I alternate the day's exercises to rest parts of my body that need it.

la jolla

Today's day trip was to La Jolla (la hoy ya), California which is 20 minutes north of downtown San Diego via freeway. This part of San Diego county is quite beautiful as well as a quiet coastal town. It has premium homes on the coastal way and has friendly occupants and visitors. A very low key place to visit. You will really enjoy your shore walk or picnic with gorgeous views. La Jolla has some nice executive homes with sweeping outstanding views. Click here to view La Jolla homes. On our visit there was La Valencia which is a hotel and restaurant. La Valencia I have visited and dined many times before.. and in their lounge I like to listen to their evening sounds i.e. modern jazz sometimes. Click here to view La Valencia Hotel and her amenities. It was a fun day walking and viewing one of my most favorite spots in San Diego.

rancho santa fe

Sightseeing today in Rancho Santa Fe. It is located in the north county of San Diego. It is not the average place to live but it was on our Trip List of things to see today. If you are wondering what an average home looks like. Here is a link of the homes for sale there presently, click here. We took a walk down the main street to window shop. We passed by The Inn and I took pictures of the long green and flowering walk way. The Inn is an historic place we visited on our day trip in Rancho Santa Fe.

you are not alone

I am a hopeless romantic and I still remember my first love through this song. One of my favorite songs is You are not Alone by Michael Jackson. Michael's funeral is this morning. I will fondly remember him.

"You are not alone" by Michael Jackson

Another day has gone
I'm still all alone
How could this be
You're not here with me
You never said goodbye
Someone tell me why
Did you have to go
and leave my world so cold
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You've always in my heart
But you are not alone
'Lone, 'Lone, Why, 'Lone
Just the other night
I thought I heard you cry
Asking me to come
And hold you in my arms
I can hear your prayers
Your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand
Then forever can begin
Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
but you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone
Whisper three words and I'll come runnin'
And girl you know that I'll be there, I'll be there
For you are not alone
For I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
You are not alone
For I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
But you are not alone
for I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone.....

fireworks

Last night we watched fireworks from on top of our water tower almost 20 feet high in back end of our acreage. We have a well. I braved it through the climb up there and really never felt safe while sitting there. The neighbors sounded their excitement when a great burst and sparkle lit up the sky. I found a video on fireworks from last night. Though it's not from where I am it was nice to see. Fireworks July 4th, 2009 in New York City viewed.

Food is an important part of living well or it can be an addiction. In my life it is a support to healthy living in addition to exercise. Tammey Burns is on the Today Show and in her past food "was" and addiction and "now" is referred to "fuel" to her body. The mind can do wonderful helpful things in our life with positive thoughts. close-up of grapes growing

This is a close-up picture of some of the grapes newly forming on my vines.

champagne grape vines

I have Champagne grapes growing in the front yard near a side patio. I have recently pruned and fixed the trailing vines. If there are signs of insects I use an organic spray mix. In 2 gallons of water I add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil and 2 tablespoons organic dish soap and mix. I have a 2 gallon hand pump sprayer I purchased at Home Depot around $20 or so. If signs of white flies then spray underside and top of leaves once then follow one more time 3 days latter. Only spray if white flies are present. This mix disturbs the eggs and flies present. Waiting a few days then spraying again disturbs the newly hatched flies and stops the insect infestation.

antioxidants in blueberries

The benefits of blueberries are found in two articles I've recently read. The first article describes blueberries as a Superfood.   Blueberries have health benefits such as positive effect on nervous system, increase cognitive functions and reasoning as well as increase muscle function and regeneration.  Also, within another article eating 2/3 cup of blueberries gives you more antioxidants than several servings of apples and squash.  I like to buy my blueberries at Costco where they are in large volumes for savings. My visit yesterday for my local grocery lookout price was 10lbs for $10.49 Blueberries frozen. Other great antioxidant foods 2-1/2 lbs for $3.79 Spinach and 48 oz (1,360 g) for $7.79 Craisins sweetened dried Cranberries.
