peaceful wish

It was a nice peaceful Christmas as I had hoped for.
I had set-up a New Year's dinner for work on the first week of January. The reservations are made and all I need are gifts for them to draw names.
I am thankful for what I have and look upon the future for hopeful wishes to come true.
I watched Olivia under the Christmas tree and... yes.. she is making her peaceful wishes too! she is sooooo cute.

olivia

Olivia my kitten is rambuncious and quite fun to watch. Sometime I will upload a short view of her jumping and hopping around like a bunny. Having her makes me smile as she pals around with me around the house. Today I have time to myself at a cafe prior to going in latter to work. I may pick up a movie on the way home by RedBox. Hopefully, there is something new to watch tonight.

Much to the delight of my plants outside, the rain started softly now it is now consistently falling in a light medium sprinkle. The puddles seem to reverberate the droplets. Somehow, though a soft gray blue cloudy sky still makes me feel the thought of "that's okay." I will go through my library of dvd's and find something I haven't seen in a while and curl up to a cup of warm milk. Olivia (kitty) is just satisfied that I am home on vakay (vacation) with her this week.

I tried not to look at my work email but .... yes, I did. I need to not think of work this week or this will not really be a vakay of relaxation.

Anyways, I'm guessing I will hunt for the dvd of Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston with Rodolfo the blind farrot, "Along came Polly." I recall it being a fun movie and light hearted comedy.

catch a moment of beauty before it fades

A beautiful crisp cool day here in Frederick Maryland. I've been running around and freely feeling like a butterfly. I've picked roses in my backyard this morning. A half dozen crimson beauties are sitting in my kitchen reminding me that each day catch a moment of beauty before it fades.

My home is a peaceful place to rest and energize. I am glad I took the brave leap to buy a home by myself. The front and backyard have fall leaves to rake up. My neighbors wave when I'm around. I sometimes have paths cross at the grocery store with smiles of delight. I am truly lucky.

today is the day

Today is the day!

I will meet at my impending home an hour prior to settlement for a final inspection with MH my realtor. Then off to the settlement company to sign papers. With keys in hand I will return to my own home that I will take good care of, furnish and grow wonderful flowers. A peaceful place to rest and be always happy to return to. I give humble thanks for this day.

waterfalls from the Potomac River

On rainy days the Potomac River over flows and feeds smaller rivers beside it as it overflows with small spectacular waterfalls. Day trip into north Bethesda into Seven Locks Park. A park easily accessible for the public to enjoy a short wonderful walk seeing a preserve with bridges viewing waterways fed from the original Potomac River. This Day trip is only 15 minutes from current home location.

During your leisure stroll around the bridges over several small waterfalls you will enter a Nature Preserve. A fragile eco system exists and is protected by a specific wooden planked walk way that leads to a Look Out to the original Potomac River. A picture from my photo library showing the ecosystem sign posted next to walkway. Quite a treat and I will have a visitor from Modesto California. This will be one of many other Day Trips in Maryland while they enjoy getting to know our area the week they are here.

is there enough time in a day?

Today's menu was 'keeping up' with clients and making everything work like clock work. It's true there isn't enough time in the day to fit everything in. I salute those individuals who make everything in their lives work and make their primary time to love and be with their family as well.

As soon as I came home, of course, who's very blue eyes looked at me lovingly was Miss Olivia. At six months she's a cute ball of fur. I like to talk to her as she looks up and listens to me. She purrs in gratitude of affection and attentiveness or just in presence of company. This picture is of Miss Olivia. I have a new camera... and am not quite happy yet with the shots. So I will read up on the preferences and set them for better results.

CR: For lunch went to Panera for their Asian Salad...mmmm delish! Light offerings after work for dinner due to just plain not hungry. Went for fruit... banana, grapes and strawberries maybe something latter if I really want something. BP this evening is 118/75 this reading is better than this morning even after a busy day.

grapevines

I was thinking how nice it was living in California with my wonderful garden there. I do miss the grapevines. Here is a picture of my home in California with the grapevine garden. My hopes is to have another nice garden in the new home. Settlement date is in a few weeks and there is some planning to do.

CR: In regards to plants... I also believe in a plant based diet. I still have a ways to go to be virtually following this diet. I recently watched a video regarding plant based diet, vegan. President Clinton and his interview regarding his vegan diet. I also believe a vegan diet is the perfect diet with healing qualities.

sipping for health

I am now sipping for health with coconut juice. I have found my blood pressure has lowered. I fell into the thought of coconut juice as a healthy alternative to soda and a refreshing taste other that plain water. At a price of $1 a can of 500 ml or 16.9 fluid oz I have stocked up on it. I am drinking young coconut juice with pulp. I am limiting myself to one can a day so not to increase my normal intake of sugars.

Here are encouraging articles written on website www.livestrong.com search for pros and cons of coconut juice. I drink simple young coconut juice with pulp.

Weather: Hurricane Irene passed thru last night Saturday. Only rain and gusts of wind were evident. The next morning Sunday we had no electricity for about 2 hours or so. Everything is fine now.

looking around!!

Early morning and I met at my inpending home for an inspection with the inspector and my realtor agent. Everything went well and I asked my agent in summary how he felt about it. He was pleased and the purchase of the home is a go ahead.
Now the day is done and I just want to rest here. I close my eyes and let the pillows conform to my head and Olivia (kitty) lays beside me watching me in her bonding way... good girl.

peaceful places

I am returning to my peaceful places and found wonderful open breath of fresh air has come back to me.

My good news! There are several to count my blessings.

Life has been kind and given me a chance to get acquainted with new twin kitty's named Olivia with her sister named Isabela in the house I am presently in. Yes, sisters but definitely not alike and now six months old. They are fun and rambunctious though curious and funny to watch. A nice distraction while other exciting events go on in my life.

Then I just received news 2 hours ago that the house I have been patiently waiting for is approved. My settlement date will be my choice next month. I will then have keys on hand and my excitement is just growing with anticipation on a home of my very own. A three bedroom (but one room will be the master with a sitting room) rancher style home with a driveway and front and backyard.

Currently, I have been working hard and have a great working team at work with bonding friendships. It will be almost one year since hired in, well exactly ten months so far. I am in the mitts of a double promotion to Assistant Branch Manager at the bank. OMGosh ... can life be any kinder!

Now after all this excitement... I choose to meditate and find my mind in peaceful places right now. I know I can go out and celebrate like crazy but I choose to sit here and close my eyes... breath and let my mind find peaceful places. I think my celebration will be inside my heart and I will find my mind in a kinder place, a very happy place. Oh and I will hug and kiss Olivia (kitty) ... she keeps bugging me right now *smile*

A mindful question to you: when you receive good news, how do you feel and how do you channel it in your life... what do you call or define a fortunate and happy event?

orchids and memories

I had recently dropped into my local Trader Joe's for groceries. I take my time and gaze around the store for new and interesting items to add to my cupboard. I was thrilled to find a fresh bunch of orchids calling to me. Of course I could not resist to bring them home and display them in my quiet room. My mother grew orchids and several varieties that I do not see common anywhere. It's almost mother's day and this brings back nice memories of my mother. Though she is not here I enjoy the orchids that called to me in memory of my mother. Happy Mother's Day mom, with deep devotion I love you.

american gold finch

A great beauty and cool demeanor is my description of this american gold finch. He sat regally on top of the metal bird post. He scanned his surroundings with cool eyes. He was satisfied and plumb after his afternoon feedings. My offerings of thistle was to his delight. This beautiful male also has a song. Tsee-tsi-tsi-tsit is a common call to keep in contact with each other. These songbirds like open woodlands, weedy fields and shrubs, and also gardens. Song wording from Bird Songs 250 North American Birds in Song book.

CR: The last week had some challenges i.e. the whooper; but not to be too hard on myself but I did loose this week about half a pound. I have monitored my activities with the Bodymedia arm band. I have succeeded to be more active 4 out of 7 days in the last week. This is due to jogging. I do enjoy my jogs through the park and neighborhood as the cats smile back at me on their window sills. I did wonder why a particular home's kitty was not at the window. To my surprise there is another new comer instead to add to my counts as I gaze around on my trips.

Home front: I took a relaxing drive up north 28 miles to view my in pending home. I am anxiously happy to be in the mitts of buying this home. I hope all goes well in the process. In the backyard in a particular area there are strawberries growing and a few other items such as mint and parsley, etc. in planter bowls. mmmm it sounds like I will have fruit and gourmet bunch of herbs at hand.

did you hug someone today?

I hugged my coworker girlfriend as we laughed about something funny and wonderful she said. I was happy for her.

botanical gardens

We took a great drive 8 miles from home to the Brookside botanical gardens. Such a beautiful day when we went a couple of weeks ago. Stunning walk ways and everyone was out since it was a warm 83 º.

Rows and beds of beautiful tulips in stunning bright red-orange. A feast of beauty.

The lake in the mitts of everything was a reflective sight. Blue skies reflected off the calm waters.

CR: I am eating well with the right portions and not knit picking the percentages to death but the totals are around 1200 give or take 100 kal. I have lost the jiggle and am working on walking a bit more when the weather permits. Along with CR I incorporate some exercise. This weekend is suppose to be wonderful. I plan a 7 to 10 mile hike Saturday or Sunday morning around Lake Frank. Getting my stretch in prior to hiking. I will enjoy listening to the birds in the serene forest as I hike through the leaves and rocks and hills. I am hoping to see deer and offspring grazing. I will also hope to be always fascinated with whatever birds and small animals happily foraging throughout the serene cool forest.

Home front: I have purchased a home on my own. Location 28 miles due north of my present stay. A quaint small home which was originally a 3 bedroom home but the master now has a sitting room. So a quaint home with a big master bedroom, another bedroom and bath with a wonderful front and backyard. I am patiently waiting. My offer was Monday the seller accepted Tuesday and I am giddy Wednesday and Thursday and yet perhaps tomorrow too. I plan a friendly bird paradise and with flowers and greenery abundance. I hope all goes well with the inspection and paperwork and bank and then I shall receive the keys at the end.

NOTE: You may use my pictures in this botanical garden article as screen savers with my permission. Please do not sell these photos and please give credit if used kindly.

zoomin' around the lake 1966 porche 911

Now that Spring has arrived the tuning up for a drive is coming sooner after the rainy weather stops coming through the area. Though the daffodils and the tulips have not yet bloomed fully, I am looking forward to a spin on a favorite car we have. This car is a 911 model 1966 year porche, it is a shifting... and your head thrown back, zooming fun ride around the lake. It was recovered from a garage with 25 years of rest and not driven at all. We have enjoyed fixing it the last 3 years. Now spiffied up and shined... we regard it a beauty and some say rare at this condition.

CR: Have stuck to my quotidian diet with success and hope to loose the jiggle while jogging around the park. I have succeeded in loosing a few pounds of the jiggle and smiling my way to a fun summer jogging. Yes, there were times I fell off the wagon but you have to get back on sometime, hopefully soon after. I am happily getting back on track.

the polite cardinal

The cardinals were feeding quickly to avoid sharing the bird feeder with the red wing black birds. I side with the cardinals due to the black birds flap overly excited when they feed. If you can imagine politeness among creatures. The cardinals fly in pick out their seeds and fly off to the side to the lilac bush and finish eating. While taking polite turns with the other birds they share the tray with.

My flowery plantings of snapdragons along with the daffodils are gaining height. It may snow in the next two days on Sunday. Hopefully, the daffodils will not stunt growth due to the snap of cold weather.

CR: Have been watching my bp and hb per minute. Lately, hb or heartbeat is a little too fast. I need to cut back on potassium and foods that start fast heart rate. Discussed this with the Dr at last visit. Dr ran a specific test on potassium and vitamins on my request. Next visit tentative in 2 weeks.

sunflower memories

Sometime ago, I was on a tour of 10 countries within a time of 3 months. I can say I enjoyed it immensely even on the days I was so... so... tired. I had met so many interesting people. Some professors in philosophy and some in culture, emerging artists, knowledgeable tour guides, a aerospace engineer, and the people who were on my tour were fascinating. I have vivid picturesque colors of south of France and sunflowers in Tuscany's low hills to emerald green blue waters around Greece and the island of Corfu. It's a once in a life time trip I took and gladly paid for... to me the memories and mostly the people that intrigued me along the way. Some day I will go again, I hope.

CR: After getting approval yesterday from my doctor. I am cutting my calories down to 1200. My exercise routine doc says I need to ramp up more slowly and not run every day but walk a few miles instead. Then replace the balance from walking then to running more often. Okay, we'll do so. Couldn't run today nor walk due to wet pavement and the weather not so great. I don't like to breath in deeply cold air into my lungs, so I'll wait till the weather gets warmer again. Hate to be sick when the weather does turn warm again.

Moss growing and meandering through the landscape at the look out point at Lake Needwood.

During my walk we ran into a relaxing bear at the park at Lake Needwood, Maryland. Almost poetic considering the weather is now warmer.

CR: Continuing to jog on days off and now adding walks in the late afternoon. Took baseline blood work today. I will get results in the next few days. I wanted to see where my numbers lead me in areas such as vitamins and other categories. Next month I will also have my annual physical.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

quiet view of lake needwood

Calm waters and vista views of Lake Needwood, Maryland. A nice pause in today's schedule.

Our drive today took us to the south side of the lake. A solitary wood boat meandering in the waters as they enjoy a serene afternoon.

pansies a colorful choice

We will plant pansies today since it will be 72º. A border of pansies will make a colorful choice near the tulips.

This morning there was a spring bunny grazing on the lawn umder the hemlock trees.

The robins are out and the birds are singing. They know that it will be a bright and warm day.

Exercise: Yesterday evening I started jogging. This morning I took my familiar route and counted the houses then went through the park. On my route a window sill kitty greeted me with surprised eyes. Yes, I am back traveling through and getting my pace back.

daffodills springing

The daffodills are much taller and with the warm weather of 72º they should try to bud soon.

trees budding

Around the bridge there are some beautiful trees. They are budding now but I can't identify the tree type just yet. I'll come back to this tree from time to time to watch it's progress.

The neighbor's dog got out and he was inspecting our trees.. you know. Anyways, he was so excited he inspected every tree in my yard. I'm wondering if there are different scents to each tree. Though he is a dog and he is curious. mmmm.

quiet park bridge

Another picture of a neighborhood bridge I like to jog or take a beautiful walk around the area. The past day it has been drizzling rain. The trees are starting to bud as well as my bulbs have been growing even faster into tall soldiers.

moose lodge

I was traveling around and found the Moose Lodge women's chapter. It's a place where the community gets together... bingo, taco night, event gatherings. I am not a member but thought mmmm.. I didn't know they existed.

CR: Had meals on time... and eating more fruits and veggies for fullness and haven't had any need for late meals nor have I been hungry for late meals. That's a good thing.

chipping sparrow and red headed sparrow

We have a lot of sparrows. Though, this shot did not come out so well. I found a chipping sparrow and a red headed sparrow looking back at me.

The chipping sparrow is a widely distributed songbird from Canada to Texas and the Atlantic to Pacific coast. They mostly live anywhere there are wooded habitats, orchards and parks. They feed on seeds, small fruits and insects. The males solely have songs that repeat, tssip that sound like trills or dry rattle. Frequent calls are a short tsip, to communicate to each other. Also, a sharp chip, for an alarm song. Song wordings from Bird Songs, 250 North American Birds in Song.

tulip candies to the eyes

For the last 5 years we have planted more and more tulips and have a wide variety. This shot I took of is the Breck's perennial tulip mix super sak®. Here is the link to Breck's. The mix is a variety of long-lasting blooms and these bulbs are from Holland. Every bulb and plantings we have purchased have bloomed to our expectations. They make lovely arrangements, like candy to the eyes. I will follow-up with growth every so often to have a diary of the tulips.

CR: I followed an old recipe from a cook book that's been in the family over 50 years. A pristine collectors copy Betty Crocker 1956. I was dismayed by the quantity of salt it required, 1 teaspoon. I couldn't do it... so when we were ready to eat I sat the salt shaker out. mmmm but I still couldn't do it. For the recipe next time I will chop in some celery and veggies in. Since celery and other vegetables have natural salts and its flavor will complete it and not the teaspoon of salt. Then I will be okay.

morning flowers and birds singing

This morning I woke up to birds singing and feeding. The drizzle of rain showers wet the birds feathers as they flew in to feed. They were in the lilac bushes grabbing on to the sticky branches that are not yet budding. They would occasionally give themselves a good shake to roll the rain off their backs. If they could smile, I'm sure they would be grinning from cheek to cheek.

This morning I selected snapdragons and wax flowers for my quiet room. They are fragrant with soft mellow scents. A good start for a rainy day.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

spring has arrived

The snow has melted and the yard is full of new growth. My daffodils are just about 5 inches tall. Now spring has arrived.

CR: Oooops, I had a french fry today.

oscar's best actor

Colin Firth won last night best actor and as well as his movie won best movie, The King's Speech, at the 2011 Oscar's. He is my favorite actor and yesterday I predicted the movie would win. Yea. I will be adding it to my movie library. I have some of his movies, even bridget jones's diary and bridget jones's the edge of reason with renee zellweger and hugh grant. I enjoy any movie he's done. I understand the queen enjoyed his movie also. This picture is kindly attributed to source: flickr:filming colin and Helena and author: www.lancashire.gov.uk and licensed under: Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic license.

CR: I am making a point to eat on time. Feeling not too tired from being overly busy. We'll have a day off tomorrow for some art and me time. It rained today, so tomorrow no running around if I can help it.

cheers to roses

Some days are good days but today Sunday was a grand day. Busy busy busy but I like to be busy... and there is nothing like having a bunch of roses to cheer up my quiet room. My sanctuary where I can pass the time in contemplation and meditation. So here's Cheers! to my cheery room.

CR: I was able to work in a treat... so I can have a small scoop each of mango and passion fruit ice cream. Yes, it was good!

Oscar prediction: Movie=> King's Speech

white-breasted nuthatch

Out the window I spied a white-breasted nuthatch. A frequent visitor to the hidden bird feeder under the dogwood tree. The tree with drummed holes in it. The birds peck the seeds open in these holes. I have watched this particular bird drum seeds open frequently. We have black oil sunflower seeds in the feeder. We get our seeds at the birder store. I took this quick shot thinking he would move on but he stayed for a few minutes at this pose in a contemplative state. I think he's happy... he looks full and happy.

The nuthatch is a woodland bird that likes hopping up and down or walking with their strong feet up and down the tree bark. They hoard their food during the fall and winter for latter use. Songs by males are in series of repeated notes, hah-hah-hah and what-what-what. But both sexes calls are hit and tuck. The call quank which is used in mild excitement. Song wordings from Bird Songs, 250 North American Birds in Song.

CR: Had a busy day and there was 8 hrs break between eating. Still on CR but will need to be mindful and eat more regularly on time.

cooper's hawk arrives

This morning to my curiosity and wonder, a Cooper's Hawk appeared again sitting on the branch of my bird feeder. It was a female with beautiful white feathers with tipped dark brown rows on her breast and under wings with bright large yellow legs. This free image does not show her beauty. My camera flashed when it should not have. This medium large visitor had a deafening quiet to our surrounding area. The birds were dismayed by her stature and presence. I'm sure my happy small bird regulars will return tomorrow when she is done with her route today. She was lovely to see fly off with her wings full giving her height. I will try again sometime to get her picture sitting or opening up her wings for flight.

The most common call vocalized is cak-cak-cak as an alarm. The male frequent call is kik used for presence and location for his female mate. The last call noted is whaaa, for females flying toward males and flying back to their nest with food. Song call wordings by Bird Songs, 250 North American Birds in Song. She has been visiting every third week and I think she must have a route that takes her a while to come back to my area. Beauty and danger in one.

CR: On another subject, I'm keeping up with my CR and have done well this week. Even tonight we went out on a Friday evening tired but I took time to select a healthy dinner, good for me.

Thursday, February 24, 2011

bridges to spring

On my drive I by pass a local park a half mile from home. During the summer or any good day off, I would include it into my route as a bonus during my jogs. Then I would count the homes and see their cats in the window sills smiling back at me. Today it rained a few hours before my drive home. I took this picture so when spring comes in a few weeks I could take a beautiful budding picture of the trees to compare them. Then I would have bridges to spring.

acai berry smoothie

I'm an admitted magazine junkie. My go to mag currently is Food & Wine, healthy recipes big flavors, march 2011, Week of Healthy Wines on newsstands now. I have it delivered, so no hunting for it.

I found this new smoothie recipe, Acai Super Smoothie. It takes 5 min to make, makes 2 large drinks. Here is link to recipe, Acai Super Smoothie, for your library. Reading on, the article combines 3.5 oz pkg of frozen unsweetened acai puree. We have a couple stores here like Trader Joe's and Whole Food's. I haven't checked to see if they stock acai puree. If it isn't available substitute strawberries with a splash of acai juice drink which is found everywhere. My thinking is the taste and the puree of a popular fruit. I would say maybe 2/3 c strawberries, 1/4 c raspberries, a small splash of acai juice (too much will make drink watery), add a large dollop of plain yogurt, 1/2 banana, 1 cup ice. Kitchen Aid Blender on High for 10 seconds, makes 16 oz serving. Avoid sweetners, no need for agave nectar unless you have a very sweet craving use truvia or splenda which should be blended at the same time as ingredients.

silent bird prints

Silent bird prints leading away from daffodils peaking through the snow.

Snow fell last night after a few hours of pitter patter of rain. This morning as I walked the backyard, I found little soldiers making their way toward warmth of sun. I saw these bird foot prints in the snow and took this shot. Sometime soon, I hope to be in the mitts of spring time. I wish it would hurry up.

On the subject of exercise, I found my right knee is bothering me. I will be strengthening it with a flamingo rep knee bends 4x's and a sitting against wall pose during morning routine.

tufted titmouse bird

Happily frolicking with our visitors at the bird feeders is our usual guest the tufted titmouse bird. It's a nice song bird with a series of clear whistle calls peter-peter-peter. Their territory, our neighborhood, have a specific songs differentiates from others. They hear and recognize each other solely by voice or song. There is also a distress call to warn others. Song call wording by Bird Songs, 250 North American Birds in Song. It's a delicate bird and very subtle in manner as I watch them.

my strawberry smoothie

I have a standard recipe I created for a strawberry smoothie. Here is my 2009 recipe:
I created a fast fruit smoothie to enjoy on a warm day or just as a quick snack.
My recipe makes a 16 oz serving.
I have a Kitchen Aid Blender set on High for 10 seconds.
135 g Fresh Strawberries
50 g Plain yogurt, full fat or light
100 g or 1/2 small banana
1 cup of ice cubes
It's oh so good!

gold finch

I spied our usual bird feeder guest, the gold finch. The females have a muted golden brown coloring and the males the bright golden yellow. Finches are abundant in open woodlands, brushy, weedy fields, farms, roadsides and every one's garden out here in Maryland. They flock to our feeder in the morning and feed themselves full but like to be in group feeding. They dance up and down each feeder post and on to the other side of the yard to the other feeder. They are nice to watch. We feed them thistle seeds from the birder store. Their call sounds like tsee-tsi-tsi-tsit , song wording from the book Bird Songs, 250 birds in song.

berries

Today I found an abundant supplies of berries, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry on sale. I purchased just enough for a week's supply. I like them for breakfast, snacks and after dinner treat. I just bought a bottle of Italian wine, Pinot Grigio by Fontana Candida inexpensive and will have a glass with my strawberries.
